The quiet joy of one-handed controls

Some of my favourite mobile games earned that spot simply because I could play them with one hand on a crowded train. It's an underrated design win, and Big Bass Fishin is a good example of getting it right.

When everything important sits within thumb reach, a game slots into the gaps of your day. You don't need a table or two free hands, just a spare minute. That accessibility does more for a game's staying power than any amount of graphical polish.

Developers who ignore this end up with menus stretched across the whole screen, forcing awkward grips. It's a small thing that quietly ruins the experience over weeks of play.

So when we test, we genuinely try playing standing up, one-handed, half distracted. It's the truest way to see how a game survives outside a perfect living-room setup.
